COACHES

Athletes participating in track and field events, in distance running events, and race walking come from different backgrounds and different life experiences.

Coaches play a key role in helping develop athletes.

USATF certified coaches are recognized as having met certain standards:

  • USATF Membership
  • Passed a background check
  • Maintain SafeSport training
  • Have met education standards

Coaches having met these standards are recognized in the USATF Coaches Registry.

Benefits of being a USATF Coach include having access to coaching education opportunities, field level access for many events, and complimentary access to track meets for coachers on the USATF Coaches Registry.

For those in the South Carolina Association, there are reimbursement grants available for both experienced coaches, new coaches, and those wanting to become coaches.

There are 3 different levels of coaching certification:

  • Level 1 – A survey of all events and related sports science.
  • Level 2 – Advanced education and training in a specific event group
  • Level 3 – Comprehensive knowledge in a specific event group
