JUNIOR OLYMPIC TRACK & FIELD RECORDS

The USATF South Carolina Association maintains all South Carolina Junior Olympic Association Junior Olympics records in the state of South Carolina. A USATFSC JO Records Committee (the “Records Committee”, or the “Committee”) shall be the arbiter of records set by members of the USATF South Carolina Association at the USATF South Carolina Association Track & Field Championships.

The USATFSC JO Records Committee shall by default consist of:

  • USATF South Carolina Association Youth Chair
  • USATF South Carolina Officials Chair
  • USATF South Carolina President

 

The USATF Region4 Coordinator is ultimately responsible for the USATF Region4 Junior Olympic Track & Field records. The USATF South Carolina Association maintains the USATF Region4  Junior Olympics Track & Field records. A USATF Region4 JO Records Committee (the “Records Committee”, or the “Committee”) shall be the arbiter of records set by member athletes of USATF Region4 at the USATF Region4 Junior Olympic Track & Field Championships.

The USATFSC Region4 Records Committee shall by default consist of:

  • USATF South Carolina Association Youth Chair
  • USATF Georgia Association Youth Chair
  • USATF Florida Association Youth Chair
  • USATF Region4 Coordinator
  • USATF Zone Representative

 

Any performance that would have been a record if not for an invalid wind gauge reading may still count as a winning performance, but is not record-eligible and will be recognized as a Noteworthy Performance.

 

USATF Junior Olympic Record Eligibility

In order for a performance (time, mark, distance, or height) to be considered record-eligible in the USATF Junior Olympics, the following rules shall apply:

 

For USATF South Carolina Association Junior Olympic Track & Field Records:

  • The athlete shall be an American Citizen, a current member of the USATF South Carolina Association, and must be date of birth verified prior to start of the first day of the meet. Rule 161.1(f)
  • The event must be the USATF South Carolina Association Junior Olympic Track & Field Championships
  • The event must be sanctioned
  • All races 200m or less must have a valid wind gauge reading
  • All record distances in field events must be verified using a steel tape.

 

For  Region4 Junior Olympic Track & Field Records:

  • The athlete shall be an American Citizen, a current member of the USATF Florida Association, the USATF Georgia Association, or the USATF South Carolina Association, and must be date of birth verified prior to start of the first day of the meet. Rule 161.1(f)
  • The event must be the USATF Region4 Junior Olympic Track & Field Championships.
  • The event must be sanctioned
  • All races 200m or less must have a valid wind gauge reading
  • All record distances in field events must be verified using a steel tape.

 

USATF National Junior Olympic Track & Field Records:

  • The athlete shall be an American Citizen, a current member of a USATF Association, and must be date of birth verified prior to start of the first day of the meet. Rule 161.1(f)
  • The event must be the USATF National Junior Olympic Track & Field Championships.
  • The event must be sanctioned
  • All races 200m or less must have a valid wind gauge reading
  • All record distances in field events must be verified using a steel tape.

Rule 161.1(f)

An American Youth Athletics Record, which shall be the best performance made by an individual or relay team, in any properly sanctioned competition, such that the individual or each member of the relay team, at the time of the performance, is an American citizen and USA Youth Athletics eligible. See Classifications in Rule 141. The record application must include the athlete’s current and valid USATF membership number.

Rule 161.2(b)

For Youth Athletics acceptable forms of proof include a birth certificate, passport, certified baptismal record, driver’s license, or US government identification or equivalent proof. Letters from civil, military, or academic officials are not sufficient.

 

Rule 262

RULES APPLICABLE TO ALL RECORDS

  1. The Records Committee shall investigate every performance submitted for record approval and shall recommend approval or rejection to the appropriate sport committee or to the Mountain/Ultra/Trail Running Council for ultra-marathon track and road races.
  2. No record shall be accepted unless it has first been approved by the appropriate sport committee or the Mountain/Ultra/Trail Running Council for ultra-marathon track and road races. No application for a record shall be recommended for approval by the Records Committee unless the committee has received all pertinent required information, as called for by the application or by these rules.
  3. No record shall be acceptable unless it was made in an event that had been sanctioned by USATF, a member organization of USATF, World Athletics, another member Federation of World Athletics, or an organization affiliated with World Athletics (World Masters Athletics and International Association of Ultrarunners) by competitors eligible to compete under World Athletics Rules.

 

RULE 269

NOTEWORTHY PERFORMANCES

  1. A performance may be recorded as a “Noteworthy Performance” if so approved by the appropriate sport committee.
